Emogene Nix Oliver was born August 24, 1938, in Clermont, Georgia, the daughter of Elbert and Nellie Belle Nix. She graduated from Clermont High School in 1956 and in 1957 married the love of her life, Mancel Oliver; they welcomed their son, Greg, in 1961.
Emogene was the epitome of a life lived for family, faith, friends, and service. She worked for the Social Security Administration for 38 years. A life-long member of Concord Baptist Church, she served as church pianist for many years and served faithfully on the Benevolence Committee and with the Joy Club for senior adults.
Emogene and Mancel traveled to many different places, several of which were in connection with the Lions Club. She faithfully delivered for Meals on Wheels and organized many class reunions for both her and Mancel’s graduating classes.
Two of Emogene’s great passions were reading and gospel music. She accumulated a vast collection of books, which she meticulously catalogued and happily loaned to friends. She regularly attended gospel singings, often traveling to do so.
Emogene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, sister, Gaynelle Beach and brother, Hugh Nix. She is survived by her son, Greg, daughter-in-law, Pam and granddaughter, Hayley of Lawrenceville; sisters and brothers-in-law Linda and Larry Watkins of Cleveland and Brenda and James Miller of Gainesville; brothers and sisters-in-law James and Rachel Nix of Clermont and Harold and Brendia Nix of Gainesville; sister-in-law Janice Nix of Clermont; brother-in-law Floyd Beach of Clermont; special friend Emily Freeman; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, and a great many friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Laurel Lodge Assisted Living, Caritas Hospice, and EnHabit Home Health for the amazing care they provided. W. R. Strickland & Sons, Clermont, GA.
