Mr. Godfrey M. Funk, age 87, of Clermont passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 after an extended illness.
 
Mr. Funk was born May 10, 1926 in Mt. Airy, Georgia to the late Godfrey and Essie Hefner Funk.  He graduated from Cornelia High School in 1944 and served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946.  He then went on to college and received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Georgia in 1950.
 
Mr. Funk was a teacher in the Hall County School System for over 35 years, and has attended and been a member of Concord Baptist Church in Clermont for 63 years, 62 of those years as a Deacon.
 
He met the love of his life, the former Patty Turner after moving to Clermont in 1950.  They married March 9, 1951 and raised four sons in the family home on Main Street in Clermont.  Mr. Funk never left his first love of gardening, making for a prolific vegetable garden and beautiful yard.
 
He was preceded in death by his sister Emma Mae Hunter and brothers, Harvey Funk and Ralph Funk.
 
Mr. Funk is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Patty Funk;  sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Wesley and Becky Funk of Flowery Branch, Mark and Janet Funk, Gary and Dr. Denise Funk, and Loren and Michelle Funk, all of Gainesville;  Grandchildren, Brian and Suzanne Funk Aultman of Savannah, Rev. Matthew and Kirsten Funk of Covington, David and Sarah Funk Harvey of Clayton, Laura Funk of Flowery Branch, Stephen and Kimberlee Funk of Smith Station, Alabama, Daniel and Allison Funk of Gainesville, and Joseph Funk, Rachel Funk, David Funk, Zachary Funk, and Jacob Funk, all of Gainesville, and seven great-grandchildren;  brothers and sisters, Bonnie Lee Chambers of Lilburn, James Funk of Homer, and Agnes Powell, Betty Jean Funk and George Funk, all of Mt. Airy; and  special friends Mancel and Emogene Oliver of Clermont.
 
Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, with internment following at the Concord Church cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Clermont.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Building Fund of Concord Baptist Church, P.O. Box 190, Clermont, GA, 30527.
